The piano forte instrument (10) is set up as a lateral instrument having a keyboard (20) provided with protective cover (30). The top side and or exterior surface (33) of the cover is turned away from the user during use. The protective cover is equipped with a catch element (50) for small articles (40) on the rear section (36) of the exterior surface (33) such that it is turned away from the user when in use. The catch element (50) is a shaped part, and arranged parallel to the axis of rotation (31) being on the rear section (36) of the protective cover. The shaped part of the catch element (50) is connected with the cover and extends over its entire length.
