A novelty drinking water dispenser has a illuminated display (17) in the base, e.g. an array of LEDs, to simulate water flow when the dispenser is operated. The demand valve is operated by a push button (10) in the top of the outlet housing. The dispenser includes a filter cartridge and the illuminated display also provides a warning signal when the cartridge requires changing.
