The drip catcher for the catching of drips and residue which come from a spout or outlet opening of a vessel or bottle or from a pipe has a holding element (12) placed in the region of the spout or outlet. The holding element consists of a material under roll-up tension. The holding element is a metal strip. The material (13) of the holding element has two stable states which are determined by the interaction of the roll-up tension and a transverse bending tension. The material has restoring capability from a straight position into a curved position, and vice versa.
