Animal food bowl (2) comprises an automatically opening and closing lid (3) fixed to a base (1) located on the bowl. A drive consisting of a power transfer component (4) driven by a motor is arranged in the base and is controlled by an infrared sensor. The power transfer component is connected to the lid by a connecting rod. A control unit contains the sensor and a switch for controlling the motor which is activated by the sensor.
