A method for illuminating the switch indicators (1) for a model railway track has the light source (27), e.g. an LED, mounted away from the switch, e.g. under the support board for the railway, and connected to the indicator by a fiber optic light guide (20). The fiber optic is located through a support sleeve (24) via which the indicator is rotated.
