The grid is formed of tubular elements (3) that may be bar magnets and fit into sockets against a stop shoulder in joint pieces (1) made of a ferromagnetic material so that the grid is held together by magnetic forces combined in series. Modules may be joined together by a ferromagnetic housing (11) of shape to clip over the joint pieces e.g. it may be a hemispherical shell over a spherical joint piece. The sockets may extend from the joint pieces at right angles.
