The conductor rail (1) may be made of aluminum and has a U-shaped cross-section. A U-shaped conductor profile has inward-extending ridges at the top of the U-shape and fits inside a U- section aluminum or plastics outer profile. Two inverted T-shaped grooves at the bottom of the inner U-profile accommodate conductor rails. The adapter has separate electrical connection circuits for the two contact lugs engaging the conductor rails and has a socket (2a) for a current user, e.g. a lamp facing away from the bottom of the U-profile.
