Transfer of paper/cardboard web between stations in a papermaking/cardboard machine, comprises shifting movements of the delivery and pick-up belts for clean and rapid transfer without loss of production time. Transfer a paper or cardboard web (12) between stations of a paper making machine, from a continuous delivery belt (22, 24) to a continuous pick-up belt (28, 40) and around an intermediate sliding suction roller (36, 42). Both belts (22, 28; 24, 40) are given a relative movement from an operational setting into a transfer position. They move from a condition where the pick-up belt around the suction roller is in contact with the web taken from the delivery belt, without passing around the suction roller into a position where the belt around the suction roller moves into the delivery belt. After the transfer of the web, the belts return to their original settings in relation to each other. At the same time, the underpressure in the suction roller is altered so that it is stronger when the units are in the transfer setting than during normal working. An independent claim is also included for a web transfer assembly to carry the paper/cardboard web between a web former (33) and a shoe press (14) and between a shoe press (16) and a drying station (41).
