Simultaneous generation of time-resolved fluorescence images and emission spectra, for determining the parameters of samples in multi-well in vitro fluorescence assays, and in DNA chips, comprises: (a) directing a laser beam to a fluorescent sample; (b) splitting the emitted light into two; and (c) combining the two beams in a multiparameter acquisition system of two ZOKEPZ-based detectors. Simultaneous generation of time-resolved fluorescence images (fluorescent lifetime imaging) and time-resolved emission spectra, also emission anisotropy patterns, based on time- and space-correlated single-photon counting (ZOKEPZ), for determining the parameters of samples such as live cells in multi-well in vitro fluorescence assays and in DNA chips, comprising: (a) directing a pulsed, high frequency, polarized laser beam to a fluorescent sample; (b) splitting the emitted light into two beams (T1 and T2) using a beam splitter; and (c) combining the two beams in a multiparameter acquisition system of at least two ZOKEPZ-based detectors. For maximum recovery of information, all physical parameters of each individual photon are detected, then stored and evaluated in control electronics. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for the method.
