The intravascular multi-anchor stent includesa plurality of cylindrical elements that areindependently expandable in the radial direction and thatare interconnected so as to be generally aligned on acommon longitudinal axis, and a plurality of barbs alongthe entire circumference of the stent that face outwardlywhen the stent is in an expanded condition. A pluralityof connecting elements are provided for interconnectingonly the cylindrical elements that are adjacent to eachother so that the stent, when expanded in the radialdirection, retains its overall length without appreciableshortening.
