A process for producing a hydrogenated C9 petroleum resin which comprises polymerizing polymerizable monomers contained in a C9 fraction using a non-phenolic Friedel-Crafts catalyst in the presence or absence of a non phenolic regulator and hydrogenating the resultant C9 petroleum resin. Thus, a hydrogenated C9 petroleum resin is obtained which has the intact properties inherent in hydrogenated C9 petroleum resins and is excellent in stability to heating and light resistance and extremely reduced in fluorescent color development.
