An optical transmission system with a reduction of the dispersion effect of the third order

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the transmission capacity of a system and to increase a transmission range with simpler constitution by installing a means suppressing deterioration in transmission characteristic by means of accumulating tertiary diffusion in optical fibers for the whole system. ;SOLUTION: An optical fiber transmission line obtained by combining positive diffusion fibers 40, 46, 52 and 54 and negative diffusion fibers 42 and 48 (called as optical fibers in the following), which have secondary diffusion and tertiary diffusion, whose codes are inverse, is provided. The optical fibers are arranged so that the average tertiary diffusion value of the whole transmission line is reduced and the lengths of the optical fibers become sufficiently smaller than the root of the product of a secondary diffusion length decided from the secondary diffusion value of the optical fibers and the pulse width of a signal and non-linear length decided by the average power of the signals in the optical fiber and the optical fiber non-linear constant of the optical fibers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
