The method involves partially filling a swimming pool basin with water until a level corresponding to initial height of a lateral wall (15) of the liner. An upper edge of a liner (7) is fixed and the liner is positioned such that base (17) of the liner remains flat on the water surface. The liner has dimensions less than that of the pool basin. The swimming pool is filled with water above the liner. An independent claim is also included for an in-ground swimming pool.
