Composition for topical application to the skin comprises an optical brightener and a semicrystalline solid polymer that has a melting point below 70[deg]C, comprises a crystallizable organic side chain and/or a crystallizable organic main chain block and has a number-average molecular weight above 2000. An independent claim is also included for a cosmetic method for lightening or whitening skin, comprising topical application of a composition as above.
