The device has a control unit coupled to engines (M) and/or an orientation control unit (MP) of a radar antenna (A). The control unit sends instructions to the engines/control unit (MP) during acquisition phases of a radar occurring during movement of a space vehicle (S) in a direction for varying an azimuth of a radar line of sight with respect to the direction from rear towards front of the vehicle, to obtain an image. An independent claim is also included for a space vehicle having a synthetic aperture radar.
