The unit has a fixed part (2) in which a rotating part (3) is arranged for being rotated in a damped manner around an axis (D). A pivoting part (4) and the rotating part are arranged one inside the other in a coaxial direction such that they form a space (6) between two opposite parts (3a, 4a). A pinion (7) is placed in the space for assembling and disassembling the pivoting part and rotating part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) utilization of a damping unit as a lid damper of a dustbin (B) a dustbin having a lid damper.
