The tool has a body used as a support by a reading unit. The reading unit includes optical fibers (4, 6), lighting system and photoelectric cell for allowing reading of contrasted pixels and non-contrasted pixels of a contrasted model. A control unit of a marking unit (9) displaces the body, such that pixels read on the contrasted model and corresponding pixels marked in a surface of an object are found close to one another. An independent claim is also included for a process for marking a surface of an object.
