The multi-layer seal (1, 1') for a cap (4) consists of one layer (C) that is subject to a resilient axial compression, and a second layer (B) that forms an oxygen barrier. (B) Is made from or coated with a deposit of a non-organic material, and has a supporting layer (S) that can be in contact with layer (C) or the sealed product.
