The backlight unit has fluorescent lamps (41) having bent portion and electrodes, that are arranged in each divided region of light-emitting surface. The light emitting diode (LED) lamps (43) are arranged along vertical center line of the light-emitting surface, at regions where the bent portions of fluorescent lamps meet. An independent claim is also included for liquid crystal display device.
