The present invention relates to a method and the design of a device for the fine measurement of the surface state, the roughness of the surface defects, the long products, on the machine of the continuous production (wires, bars, etc..). the description below - below refers to the case of a metal wire, but may apply to other types of profile longs.cette invention uses the reflection of a light beam on the periphery of a wire, selectively and sequentially to demonstrate the characteristics of the surface by successive scrutinizations of fine elements of the surface. The measurement is not very sensitive to the position or the vibration of the wire and its resolution is constant and independent of the diameter of the fil.l' luminous energy received by the sensor varies as a function of the surface state of the wire, its geometrical regularity (defects of the relief or of shape) of its colour. Using only static components, this method makes it possible to perform 200 000 revolutions per second.
