The device has a central rod (7) with the function of energy absorption including a covering zone (13) with progressive stiffness on an axial length at the end of the rod. The zone has on its outer surface, a rib (15) parallel to its axis. The slope of the rib is supported on a series of support points arranged at an inner surface of a sleeve (16) concentric to the rod, covering the zone and integrated to the rod above the zone. An independent claim is also included for a mechanism for rapid positioning of inclination of a backrest of a seat of a motor vehicle.
