The ultrasound cartography system consists of an ultrasound emitter (16, 28) and a receiver (14, 26, 36, 38) placed on either side of a component (10, 24) being monitored. It also has an electronic processor (20, 32) for the electrical signals produced by the piezoelectric film when subjected to ultrasound so that the surface of the object can be mapped. The piezoelectric film can be located on a support (6) or placed against one surface of the object while the ultrasound emitter is moved on the opposite surface.
