The detector has a stator comprising a set of teeth (2) which are formed at intervals in a circumferential direction. Excitation coils (5) are formed in the teeth that are different from each other. The coils are connected in series in the circumferential direction so as to form a set of excitation coil groups. The coil groups are connected in parallel so as to form an excitation winding.
