Aqueous composition (I) comprises water-soluble heptanoic acid salt (Ia) (1-10 g/l), an oxidizing agent (Ib) (1-10 g/l), at least one triglyceric fatty acid (Ic) (6-18C) (50-800 g/l) or at least a drifting ester of the condensation of at least 1-10C aliphatic alcohol comprising 1-4 hydroxyl group, with at least 8-22C mono, di, or tri fatty acid, and optionally a nonionic surface-active agent (Id). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method of hardening/working a steel strip/plate, comprising applying (I) on the surface of the steel strip/plate and hardening/working of the steel strip/plate; and (2) a method of enameling/painting of the steel strip or plate, comprising applying (I) on the surface of the steel strip/plate, degreasing the steel strip/plate and enameling or painting.
