The seedling has a protection device in the form of a flexible sleeve (6), made of opaque material, disposed around the seedling. The sleeve is closed at end, oriented towards root side of the seedling, by a biodegradable connection (9). The sleeve is fixed to the seedling via a ligature formed from the connection. The sleeve has ventilation and water evacuation orifices (7, 8). A stake (10) is fixed to a root-stock via the connection.
