The compartment has a box (6) and a trough (8) movable with respect to the box between retracted and deployed positions. The trough is moved between the positions by rotating around a vertical axle (12) perpendicular to centre line of the vehicle. The box has an opening (13) across which the trough is deployed out of the box. The trough is moved towards rear and towards left with respect to retracted position when in deployed position. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle provided with a glove compartment.
