The assembly has an elastic band (43) disposed inside a sleeve (40) comprising a rear section (46) situated between a seam (44) and a covering body (14) and a front section (48) situated between the seam and a transversal bar (20). The seam is displaced towards the bar and located before an opening (38), under the bar, by the action of the band, for the end positions of the axial movement of a steering column (10). An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a steering assembly.
