The method involves closing two inlet lines (4, 6) of an internal combustion engine at a low speed of the engine for obtaining a high swirl level. An inlet line (6) of the engine is closed at an intermediate speed of the engine for obtaining an intermediate swirl level. The lines (4, 6) and a main inlet line (3) of the engine are opened at a high speed of the engine for obtaining a low swirl level. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine implementing a swirl level adapting method.
