Preparing a solid material (A) from alkaline hydroxide (I) or its precursor, comprises mixing (I) with a calcium compound (II) and silicon oxide (III) in the presence of water. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a solid material (A) obtained by the process; and (2) storing waste, comprising preparing a mixture of alkaline hydroxide (I) or its precursors with a calcium compound (II) and silicon oxide (III) in the presence of water, immersing the waste in the mixture, insulating the waste physically and chemically in the solidified mixture, and transforming (A) into a monolithic product.
