Multi-layer felted material manufacturing process, e.g. for motor vehicle trim, uses one machine for lapping and felting for simplicity and economy

The procedure for making a felted material from two or more layers of fibers of different natures consists of treating each fiber batch in a specific machine, forming them into lengthwise strips (2a, 2b) and carding them simultaneously to make a layer (1) that is lapped (D) and then felted to produce the required complex material. The initial fiber batches can differ in chemical composition, dimensions, geometrical shape, structure or density, and at least one batch can contain a dispersed filler e.g. of a mineral, metallic or thermoplastic powder. The fiber batch forming the under-layer can contain fibers or filling of recycled materials.
