The device has a support (16) equipped with a bore forming an inner space to receive a rolling bearing (2) mounted on a rotor (1) of a rotating machine. A protection ring (22) protects the bearing placed in the support. The ring has an annular wall separating the space into a chamber for the bearing and another chamber for collecting rings (4) of the rotor. The ring (22) has a lug extending radially outward of a tube for the gripping of the ring (22). An independent claim is also included for a method for resuming machining of collecting rings of a rotor of a rotating machine.
