The device has a stud (7) made up of elastomer material and mounted between branches of a clevis (5). The stud has a central part (7a) mounted between base of the clevis and a part of an edge (3a) of a core (3) of a brake pedal (1) to exert a clearances retrofit effort between the clevis, a hinge pin (6) and the core. The retrofit effort is exerted when a piston rod is moved in a direction corresponding to raising of the pedal after releasing the pedal. An independent claim is also included for a method of assembling a dampening stud.
