The method involves comparing a threshold with a capacitance between a contact electrode (4) and a mass. Identification data from a central processing unit (8) are transmitted towards a badge (2) if the capacitance is higher than the threshold, where the data are transmitted by conduction through the body of a person carrying the badge. The capacitance value is compared with another threshold, and the maximum transmission power of the data is adjusted to the maximum transmission value if the capacitance value is higher than the latter threshold. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying a carrier of a badge relative to a vehicle.
