A support system for a tubular in a wellhead B10/B comprises a tubular body having a support groove B34/B surrounding the bore B12/B therethrough and a tubular B20/B having a load member B48/B supported thereon in a run in position that allows the load member B48/B to pass the support groove B34/B without engagement therewith. The tubular B20/B may comprise an energising taper B42/B to expand the load member B48/B towards the support groove B34/B. The support groove B34/B may retain the load member B48/B against significant torsional bending about a circumferential axis of the load member or against significant bending out of a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the bore. The load member B48/B may comprise a segmented ring where the segments are movable with respect to each other to allow the ring to assume different diameters. The support groove B34/B may be formed on an insert B30/B which is removably mounted to the tubular body.
