A control device 1 to control a parameter to a desired value, suitable for use in a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system, comprises reset means and means to set the parameter to a value different from the reset value. The reset means may include a knob 3 which may be pushed or pressed into a main body 2. The means to set the parameter to a value different from the reset value may also include the knob 3, which may be able to be moved in directions perpendicular to the reset direction or to be rotated. The knob 3 may also be able to be continuously rotated, and may deliver tactile or audible alarms when a limit value has been reached. The control device may be used to set an ambient temperature controlled by a temperature controlling thermostat in a domestic HVAC system.
