PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified particle that is appropriate for a catalyst component for addition polymerization and is intended for providing a high-molecular-weight addition polymer, a catalyst component for addition polymerization comprising the particle, a catalyst for addition polymerization comprising the particle as the catalyst component for addition polymerization, and a method for producing an addition polymer using the catalyst for addition polymerization.;SOLUTION: The modified particle is obtained by causing a compound that is obtained by reacting the following component (b) with a base and then with the following component (a) to come into contact with the following component (c), wherein the component (a) is a compound represented by formula [1], BiL1m, the component (b) is a compound represented by formula [2], R1t-nTHn and the component (c) is a porous inorganic substance or an organic polymer. The catalyst component for addition polymerization comprises the thus modified particle (A). The catalyst for addition polymerization is obtained by causing the modified particle (A), a transition metal compound (B) containing transition metal atoms of group 3rd to 11th or of the lanthanoids series of the Periodic table, and an organo-aluminium compound (C) to come into contact with each other.
