PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a piston stroke end pressure of a frictional engagement element constituting an automatic transmission in a state of assembly, and reduce the time for the measurement. PSOLUTION: A piston stroke end pressure is measured in the state that the frictional engagement element of the automatic transmission is assembled. The displacement of one side-face of the frictional member is detected, and the pistion is pressurized to push the frictional member to one side, so that the one side-face of the frictional member is brought into contact with a thrust-stopper. The contact position is set as a reference point of the displacement. The value of the pressure activing on the piston is measured at a point of time when a detected displacement has reached a determined displacement which is set at a position specified distance away from the reference point to the other side.
