PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time period for detecting a presence or absence of ejection of all the nozzles on a liquid droplet jet section in a liquid droplet jet device such as an inkjet recorder or the like.;SOLUTION: When detection of ejection is carried out, each two nozzles including one of the nozzles 107 and one of the nozzles 109 in nozzle arrays 106, 108 to be detected in the nozzle arrays of a recording head 101 are sequentially driven, and then an ink liquid droplet with a small size is ejected from the former one and an ink liquid droplet with a large size is ejected from the later one. When an ejected ink liquid droplet passes across a detection area A where a detection light flux 105 from a light emitting device 102 of an ejection detection sensor to enter a light sensitive device 103 thereof passes therethrough to shade the light, a voltage of a detection signal of the sensor is changed. The nozzles 107, 109 are simultaneously or approximately simultaneously driven so that a term while both of the ink liquid droplets respectively ejected from the nozzles 107, 109 are in the detection area A at the same time is generated.
