PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder resin having a high molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution, an electrostatic image developing pulverized toner using the same and satisfying toner characteristics, an electrostatic image developing toner and a method for manufacturing the same, an electrostatic image developer and an image forming method using those. PSOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the binder resin includes a step of polycondensing a polyhydric alcohol and a polycarboxylic acid in which the carbon number of a residue to which a carboxyl group bonds is ≥5 with a polycondensation catalyst, wherein at least one of the compounds represented by formulae (I)-(III) is used as the polycondensation catalyst. In the formula (I), RSP1/SPrepresents a 13-20C alkyl group; RSP2/SPrepresents a group of which the sulfo group-based Hammet's value is 0.2; and n represents an integer of 0-4. In the formula (II), RSP3/SPrepresents an 8-20C alkyl group; RSP4/SPrepresents a group of which the sulfo group-based Hammet's value is ≥0.2; RSP5/SPrepresents a group of which the sulfo group-based Hammet's value is 0.2; p represents an integer of 1-4; and q represents an integer of 0-3.
