PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an address reader capable of treating two or more kinds of standard-size postal matter simultaneously and improving the rate of recognition of address information by utilizing sender information to read address information, an apparatus for treatment of postal matter and an address reading method.;SOLUTION: The apparatus for treatment of postal matter has a recognition section recognizing address information from an image read out from an item of postal matter with the scanner section of a sorter. The recognition section finds sender information written on the item of postal matter, reads out the description format of the address information intrinsic to the sender with the recognized sender information as the key and recognizes address information by using the read-out description format.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
