USE OF COUNTER-COLLISION FOR MODIFICATION OF CELLULOSE AS CELLULASE SUBSTRATE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for decomposition of cellulose fiber. PSOLUTION: Cellulose fibers are subjected to counter-collision and the product is treated with cellulase. The counter-collision is carried out by ejecting an aqueous dispersion of cellulose fibers through a pair of ejection nozzles under a pressure of as high as 70-250 MPa and the ejected streams are made to collide with each other to be crushed. Accordingly, the enzymatic reaction characteristics of the aqueous solution of cellulose can be increased by the method. The counter-collision can be applied to the fermentation of organic wastes rich in cellulose fibers for the production of lactic acid, methane or ethanol. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
