PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detection enabling the discrimination of a mutation lineage in a crop such as rice, etc., accurately and simply in an optional stage in the circulation market of the crops, and also enabling the discrimination of agricultural crops between specific places of production (e.g. the discrimination between the agricultural crops produced in a specific prefecture and in another prefecture or discrimination between a cultivated area of an agricultural crop and another cultivated area). PSOLUTION: This method for detecting the variation of base sequence in a DNA prepared from a specimen is characterized by detecting the DNA variation by a dot-blotting method by using a competitive hybridization. The method for discriminating the silent mutation lineage by using the same method and the method for discriminating the place of production of the agricultural crops and a kit for dot-blotting by using the competitive hybridization used in the method are also provided.
