PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the reverse drive of an automobile having a trailer for a driver, and to improve backward travel irrespective of a predetermined reference isoclinal trajectory.;SOLUTION: In a method for supporting a driver of an automobile in the backward travel of a trailer, the automobile has an electronic-controlled servo-type steering device 1 having a steering wheel 2 for giving a steering wheel angle δS as a reference amount for a desired steering angle δFm to at least one of steerable wheels 5a, 5b.
