ADDITIVE FOR LUBRICATING FLUID, LUBRICATING FLUID COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYOLEFIN SULFIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for lubricating fluid having a high sulfur content, good load withstanding properties and oxidation stability when used as an extreme pressure additive and excellent in low corrosiveness to non-ferrous metals, a lubricating fluid composition added with the additive and a method for producing an olefin sulfide useful as the additive.;SOLUTION: The additive for lubricating fluid comprises the olefin sulfide (A) containing 1-3 sulfur atoms per 1 monosulfide bond and 1 average polysulfide bond in a molecule, having 40-55 wt.% sulfur content in the molecule and substantially containing no chlorine. For example, the olefin sulfide (A) is expressed by general formula (1) R¹S-(S_x-R²-S_y)_n-R¹ (1) (wherein x expresses 0 or 1-2 integer; y expresses 1-3 integer; n expresses 1-10 integer; R¹ and R² express each a monovalent or divalent 4-10C alkyl or alkenyl).
