PLEIOTROPHIN-BINDING OR NONBINDING CHONDROITIN SULFATE/DERMATAN SULFATE OLIGOSACCHARIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sulfated oligosaccharide useful as a reagent for study for elucidating the structure and function of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate having various kinds of bioactivities.;SOLUTION: The pleiotrophin (PTN)-binding or nonbinding sulfated oligosaccharide is isolated and purified by fragmenting chondroitin sulfate/dermatan sulfate hybrid chain (E-CS/DS) derived from embryonic pig brain, and subjecting the resultant fragments to an affinity chromatography or the like using a column for immobilizing the PTN which mediates neurite extension-promoting activities. Structures of many kinds of new sulfated oligosaccharides are determined by subjecting the resultant oligosaccharides to structural analysis. The PTN-binding sulfated oligosaccharide in them can be utilized as a PTN function regulator for binding with the PTN and regulating the function.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
