PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To find out a pathway for controlling the expression of NEDL1 and to provide a method for screening a compound inhibiting the onset or progress of FALS (familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) by utilizing the same. PSOLUTION: This method for screening includes the following processes: a process of culturing cells under conditions of the presence and absence of a tested compound; a process of measuring the amount of expression of HIF-1α (hypoxia inducible factor-1α) in each of the cultured cells; and a process of judging that the tested compound is the compound inhibiting the onset or progress of the familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis when the amount of expression of the HIF-1α in the cells cultured in the presence of the tested compound is smaller than that in the cells cultured in the absence of the tested compound.
