PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered material which has a high wear resistance, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance and yields a favorable surface roughness.;SOLUTION: The sintered material comprises ≥70 wt.% tungsten carbide, a carbide of an iron-group metal and the balance being selected from a carbide, a carbonitride, a nitride or a boride of a group IVa, Va or VIa element. A method for manufacturing the sintered material comprises (a) a step wherein a granular starting material comprising ≥70 wt.% tungsten carbide, 5 wt.% iron-group metal and the balance being selected from a carbide, a carbonitride, a nitride or a boride of a group IVa, Va or VIa element is prepared, (b) a step wherein the starting material is sintered at a sintering temperature of ≤1,500°C to form a sintered compact and the iron-group metal contained in the starting material is carbonized and (c) a step wherein the sintered compact is subjected to an HIP treatment at a temperature equal to or lower than the sintering temperature.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
