PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a pebble-bed gasifying furnace designed to prevent a fine solid fuel, soot, etc., produced during starting of gasifying operation from passing through a pebble bed and improve the gasification efficiency during the starting of the gasifying operation. PSOLUTION: The pebble-bed gasifying furnace (1) is equipped with a reaction furnace (10) gasifying and melting the solid fuel (F) and a separation chamber (20) communicating through the pebble bed (16) with a gasifying reaction zone (14). Coal ash (incombustible) heated at a prescribed temperature during the starting of the operation of the gasifying furnace and having a melting point not higher than the prescribed temperature is charged into the gasifying reaction zone. Films (C) of molten coal ash are formed on the surfaces of pebbles (17) and the solid fuel is then charged into the gasifying reaction zone to start the gasifying operation. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
