SOLUTION: This device which extracts texture characteristic quantity representing the texture characteristic of an image from a digital multilevel image by using a cooccurrence matrix has an image storing means 10 storing images, an image size storing means 20 storing a desired image size, an image size converting means 30 converting the size of an image into the desired image size stored in the image size storing means, a cooccurrence matrix calculating means 40 calculating a cooccurrence matrix from the image and a characteristic quantity operating means 50 calculating texture characteristic quantity from the calculated cooccurrence matrix.
