PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source for optical communication to realize adequate setting and control of optical output wavelength and optical output power even while a drive current varies, and for satisfying the predetermined distinction ratio/eye-mask regulation.;SOLUTION: The fifth means 5 of the light source stores values of optical output wavelength, optical output power and RF amplitude for the drive current and element temperature during direct modulation satisfying the predetermined distinction radio/eye-mask regulation in a light emitting element, or the values regarding these three values or parameter values for determining relationship among three values. A sixth means 6 determines the drive current and element temperature designated with both optical output waveform and optical output power from the relationship among the drive current, the element temperature during direct modulation satisfying the predetermined distinction ratio/eye-mask regulation determined by such values, the optical output wavelength, and optical output power. Moreover, the sixth means 6 also determines the RF amplitude in the determined drive current and element temperature from the relationship among the drive current, element temperature, and RF amplitude when the drive current varies during direct modulation satisfying the predetermined distinction ratio/eye-mask regulation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
